About the film:
As the never-say-stop Mumbai races about, there are hearts that march to a different beat. Set against the urban landscapes of Bombay, ‘Country of Bodies’ is a dance film that narrates the personal and intimate relationship of the city and its inhabitants.
Five sequences run through the video, each representing a different relationship between the characters and the city, interweaved and intercut with the others to create a seamless portrait of life and living in the city of Bombay through dance.
The constant hustle for space and standing ones own ground comes very naturally automatic process for people in the city. Even while one makes peace with the lack of private spaces, the walls keeps coming more and more tighter. The city has little respect for solitude. Being alone is something you do only if you don’t have anything else to do. This piece is about the desire to protect that quiet voice within. A constant battle like a flame on a windy day.
